Specialized Units

In addition to the patrol and investigative divisions, the Dobbs Ferry Police Department also provides the residents of the community numerous specialized units. These units increase the technical expertise of the Officer involved, which not only improves the overall morale of the agency, but also creates a more well-rounded and effective Police Officer.

Bicycle Unit: The Dobbs Ferry Police Department established the Bicycle Unit in 1998 and it has been very well received by the community. Officers patrol the business district, Waterfront Park as well as the Old Croton Aqueduct, which runs north and south through the Village. Currently this agency possesses four GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc, 24 speed police model mountain bikes which are individually assigned to an Officer.

H.E.A.T. Marine Unit: The Hudson Enforcement Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.) was created in 2004 through a joint venture between the Dobbs Ferry Police Department and the Town of Greenburgh Police Department. This is a multi-jurisdictional team staffed by Officers from the Dobbs Ferry Police Department, Irvington Police Department, Sleepy Hollow Police Department, Hastings Police Department and the Greenburgh Police Department. The first boat purchased was a 22 foot Zodiac Hurricane, powered by a 175 horsepower engine. In 2006, this agency added a 24 foot Sea Swirl Striper, which is powered by a 225 horsepower outboard engine. This second watercraft features an enclosed cabin which protects Officers against the weather and elements. Its large deck space offers more working room for assigned Officers. The Dobbs Ferry Police Department also owns a Yamaha Waverunner. All Marine Officers are trained in Basic Marine Law Enforcement and Safety Courses. Other certifications range from Ice Rescue Technicians and Boater Accident and Investigations.

Greenburgh SWAT: The Greenburgh Specials Weapons and Tactics team was expanded into a multi-jurisdictional force in 2004. This highly specialized unit is equipped with the latest technologies and is manned by the most highly dedicated and physically fit members of law enforcement.

Motorcycle Unit: The Dobbs Ferry Police Department owns two Harley-Davidson Road King Police Edition Motorcycles. These Officers, besides being utilized for parade and funeral details, are also used in the aggressive enforcement of traffic within the Village of Dobbs Ferry.
