Occasionally residents have had questions concerning various local ordinances. The Dobbs Ferry Police Department has conveniently gathered some of the more common queries from its residents.

Question: Are dogs required to be leashed in the village?

VO 153-4 Restrictions

A. No owner or possessor of a dog or domestic animal shall permit such dog or animal to be at large in the Village of Dobbs Ferry except as provided in Subsection B below.

B. The owner, posessor or custodian of a dog shall control and restrain such dog by a chain or leash not exceeding eight (8) feet in length, except when such dog is on residential premises with the knowledge and permission of the owner of the premises.

Question: When can construction be performed in the village?

VO 234-52 Construction work prohibited at certain hours and on certain days.

No person shall engage in construction work earlier than 7:30 am or later than 6:30 pm, prevailing time, on any day or at any hour on Sunday or any of the following holiday's: New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Question: When do I have to put money in the parking meters?

VO 290-36. Days and hours of operation.

A. In on-street parking meter zones on Cedar Street, Main Street, Oak Street, Elm Street and Chestnut Street and in any municipal parking area, the use of parking meters is required from 9:00 am to 6:00pm on all days except Sunday and on those days on which the following holidays are observed: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Columbus Day, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, commonly known as "Election Day," Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Question: When can leafblowers be used in the village?

VO 234-56 sub I

Gas powered leaf blowers may be used from March 15th to May 1st and September 15th to December 15th from 8:00 AM until 6:00PM on Monday through Friday and 10:00 AM until 5:00PM on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.

Electric leaf blowers may be used all year long from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Monday through Friday and 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
